CAR T cell therapy moves from cancer into autoimmune disease

Charité in Berlin ran the world's first trial using CAR T-cell therapy, a technique built to fight cancer, against severe rheumatoid arthritis that had resisted every other treatment. The stakes are whether clearing out the memory B cells suspected of driving chronic autoimmune inflammation can produce durable, medication-free remission at a scale beyond a handful of patients.
