Beavers rewilding drought-stressed rivers

Utah State University began relocating nuisance beavers into the drought-stressed Price River in 2019, and six years later the river holds its healthiest water levels in years with thriving fish populations. The project has since spread to other Utah watersheds. It is not yet documented how the approach performs outside Utah or under harsher drought conditions.

Upworthy reported that a pictograph of a beaver on a Tule River rock shelter helped spark California's first beaver restoration since the 1950s, which had grown to 28 relocated beavers at five sites by September 2024.
