Voyager 1 begins its journey
NASA launched Voyager 1 from Cape Canaveral on a tour of Jupiter and Saturn. It sent home close-up views of both giant planets and their moons, then kept going. Today it is the most distant human-made object, still sending faint signals from interstellar space.
