Europe's push into private orbital launch
Where it stands as of Sep 11, 2026
Isar Aerospace's Spectrum rocket launched from Andoya Spaceport in Norway on its second attempt and released five CubeSats and a technology experiment into orbit, the first successful orbital launch by a privately built European rocket. The company has five more Spectrum rockets in production, a factory near Munich nearing completion, and roughly 10 billion euros in customer deals lined up. Scaling to the 40 launches a year the company hopes for is a much larger, unproven engineering and manufacturing challenge.
