    Humanity sends a message to the stars

    Astronomers at the Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico beamed a coded radio message toward a distant cluster of stars, sketching our numbers, our chemistry, and our place around the Sun. More a demonstration than a real attempt at contact, it showed we had learned to call across the galaxy.
