    The first television picture appears

    In his London laboratory, John Logie Baird transmitted the first moving television image, the flickering grey face of a ventriloquist's dummy named Stooky Bill. The picture was crude and slow, only about five frames a second, but it moved. Baird had shown that a live picture could be captured and sent electrically.
