Darwin and Wallace reveal natural selection

Papers by Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace were read together to the Linnean Society in London, laying out how living things change over generations through natural selection. The quiet meeting introduced one of the most powerful ideas in all of biology.

Cassini becomes the first to orbit Saturn

After a seven-year voyage, NASA's Cassini spacecraft threaded a gap in Saturn's rings and settled into orbit, the first craft ever to circle the ringed planet. It spent 13 years studying Saturn, its glowing rings, and its many moons.
