James Parkinson is born
The London doctor James Parkinson was born on this day. In 1817 he wrote a careful description of a condition he called the shaking palsy, the tremor and stiffness now known as Parkinson's disease. Naming it clearly was the first step toward understanding and treating it, work that still goes on.
