A human voice is recorded for the first time
In Paris, Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville captured the sound of a human voice on his phonautograph, scratching the shape of the sound onto soot-blackened paper. He had no way to play it back. It sat unheard for almost 150 years, until modern scanners let us finally listen to that faint scratch of song.
