The cause of Legionnaires' disease is found
Scientists at the CDC announced they had tracked down the culprit behind Legionnaires' disease, a mysterious pneumonia that had killed dozens after a Philadelphia convention the year before. The cause was a previously unknown bacterium, later named Legionella. Naming the enemy is the first step to stopping it.
