Atomic energy lights its first four bulbs
At a reactor in the Idaho desert, engineers used heat from splitting atoms to make electricity for the first time, enough to light four ordinary bulbs. Experimental Breeder Reactor I proved that nuclear energy could do useful work, an idea that grew into the plants now powering cities.
