    The discoverer of photosynthesis is born

    Jan Ingenhousz was born in the Netherlands. He showed that green plants, in sunlight, clean the air by taking in carbon dioxide and giving off oxygen, and that they only do it in the light. Nearly every breath we take, and the plants that feed us, run on the process he uncovered.
