    Radioactivity is discovered by accident

    Henri Becquerel developed photographic plates that had been shut in a dark drawer with uranium salts and found them fogged by an invisible radiation, with no sunlight involved. He had stumbled onto radioactivity, opening a new branch of physics and, in time, new ways to fight cancer.
