The double helix is worked out
At Cambridge, James Watson and Francis Crick figured out that DNA is a double helix, two spiraling strands that can unzip to copy themselves. The story goes that Crick told the lunch crowd at a nearby pub they had found the secret of life. Their model showed how living things pass on their instructions.
